DTWG 'Desire to Worship God' were founded in Manchester in 2003 and are fast becoming a renowned name in the UK Gospel. In October of the same year it held its first Gospel concert, which was heralded a success and featured finalists from the GMTV Gospel Competition. DTWG has since hosted a number of successful community based Gospel Events in Manchester and London. The DTWG Family increased in 2006, with DTWG London being brought into existence. Siani-Unplugged
Siani - Unplugged : Widely seen as the UKs front female trio, Siani release their live album recorded last year at Deptford's Albany Theatre.
An extremely ambitious project taking into account that there is no label backing on this one and the ladies pull off what has to be seen as another milestone for the UK Gospel industry. The double package of CD/DVD comes in an eye-catching emerald green and youll notice that front singer Simone dons a guitar.
Now, like many, I thought this was for show purposes. But watching the DVD its at the point where they sing "Your Light" she invites her friend to the stage which turns out to be her guitar that she calls Israel and in effect is her first public performance with it. Great stuff.
Now dont expect fireworks or a pulsating pace. Just as the title says, this set is stripped down, soul-stirring and sweet harmonies all the way. Loads of new tracks take their place including "One Thing That Remains", "Infectious" and the absolutely brilliant Blues/Jazz number "DDD". There are some interesting remakes of tunes from their debut album like a Piano-Jazz fused "Gonna Be Alright" and the mesmerising "Missing You". They add a great twist to "Love Is" opting for a more subtle Salsa version and take time to give props to the band supporting them on the night. Extra features on the DVD come with an interview and the Love Is music video. This unplugged album from Siani is a great example of what an independent genre can do to rival stuff on a major platform. Creative and free-flowing, the UK Gospel scene can hold their head up high with these ladies as one of its key ambassadors. REVIEW- www.unitedbyone.co.uk
